Zoey Daniels has been tossed from foster home to foster home, where she grows up fast and tough. When she is placed in her “last-chance” home, she finds a reason to stay and turn her life around: her foster sister, Lexie, who is paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. Zoey will do anything to keep her safe.

After high school, Zoey is hired by a special government agency, the Department of Molecular Genetics (DMG), where she meets the other reason to remain: Daniel, her co-worker. The man she loves.

But there is something unique about Zoey. She can see fae. Because of this, the DMG hires her to work as a Collector: catching, researching, testing, and using the fae to save human lives. The work never registers on her sympathy radar. She was raised to think of fae as beasts that feed on humans and want to destroy them.

When devastation hits Seattle, Zoey’s whole world is turned upside down. The electric storm connects her to a ruthless fae, a Wanderer named Ryker, whose dealings expose them to even more trouble and danger. They embark on a journey, running and hiding from both the government and fae, both of which threaten their lives and those they love.

Let me just start out that I had completely forgotten I had this book in my kindle to read for a release. I got an email reminding me that the release day was coming up, and so I immediately picked it up and started reading. I had never read any of Stacey Marie Brown’s books before, so I didn’t know what to expect from this book. I started out liking it, but before I knew it, I was turning page after page, eager to find out what happened next. It’s really hard to put down! It even had me crying 98 pages into the book!

Zoey Daniels works for DMG, a government agency that collects fae and experiments on them to try and find cures for disabilities…or so she believes. On a patrol with her partner (and the man she loves), Daniel, things go to hell in a hand basket. A fae sets off an electric storm that makes Seattle a disaster zone. In one night, Zoey loses Daniel and her foster sister, Lexie, and somehow is connected to a ruthless fae, Ryker. They begin a journey to try and get Ryker’s power back to him, which had been transferred to her during the electrical storm.

I loved Zoey and Ryker’s relationship. They started off hating each other (neither would mind seeing the other dead), both dealing with prejudices that they had dealt with for years, as well as getting over the loss of the ones they loved just that day. Ryker is trying to keep Zoey alive because she has his fae powers stored in her body somehow; Zoey is stuck with Ryker because he can find her no matter where she is. But as their time together goes on, they begin to respect and care for each other.

There is action, a talking monkey, a badass chick, a Viking fae (who is extremely hot), and romance. I could not put this down! It quickly became a book that I loved, and now I can’t wait for the second book to come out because I REALLY need to know what happens next!
