The premise of the book intrigued me (a twist on the Robin Hood tale!), but sadly, it just didn’t hold my interest.
To be honest, I was bored throughout this book. I hate to say that, but it’s the truth. The writing was ok, but the characters were one-note.
The story started out strong, with Juliana (our Robin Hood) robbing the rich to feed the poor (I had to, I’m sorry!). But then she makes the mistake of robbing returning neighbor, Colin, who has been away for a few years. After a little altercation in the woods, he brings her back to his home.
The characters for me were just not likable. I found Juliana to be annoying, and weak. I was hoping for a little bit stronger heroine. And then there’s Colin. He was also annoying, but the thing that annoyed me the most about him was that he gets one look at her pretty face and BAM! he’s in love. I hate instalove. It always ruins a story for me, and it was the case for this book.
I think if the story had been more fleshed out and there hadn’t been instalove (which I hate!), this story would have been better. I’m glad I gave it a try, but it just wasn’t one I could connect with.
I was provided a free copy of A Daring Sacrifice in exchange for an honest review.
