As I mentioned last week, here is part II of my times in Chicago. And this week is on my time at BookCon!
BookCon was amazing. I’ve never done anything like this before, so it was full of unknowns for me, which always makes me nervous. However, my friend and I had a blast. We ended up skipping the lines to get bracelets for getting books signed, but we would have had to get up at the crack of dawn, which would have not been fun. But even though we didn’t get books signed, we wandered around the floor and got tons of free stuff, bought some books, and attended some talks. Overall, it was a fun time. (I think I might have even talked to Susan Dennard when my friend and I were having lunch, but I’m not 100% sure. She sure looked like her!). I would definitely attend this event again if it came back to Chicago!
When we first arrived, we saw a Harry Potter section, so obviously, being the Potterheads we are, we headed over there and saw a wall where you could write what Harry Potter means to you. ❤ ❤
One of the talks we attended was on the power of storytelling, with Meg Cabot, Kate DiCamillo, and Sherman Alexie on the panel. It was simply brilliant and probably my favorite thing about the event. We ended getting to take a photo with Sherman Alexie which was also a highlight of the event.
Sadly, next year, BookCon/BEA will be back in New York [ 😦 ]. But who knows, maybe I’ll go to BEA next time. Either way, I had a good time at BookCon.
