To fully enjoy this book, plug in a Spotify 80’s playlist, push play, and enjoy! 😜

The story follows Mara, a member of Gideon Davorin’s Traveling Carnival, comes to the small town of Caudry, where she meets local boy Gabe. But the longer the carnival is in town, they become aware of this dark presence that is threatening the carnival members. Of course, it is up to Mara to learn to harness the power she didn’t know she had in just seven days, and to save them all.*

(*note the sarcasm)

This was an enjoyable read, a bit lighter than I was expecting, but it went by pretty quickly! The cast of characters are likable, and the love story was charming, but I since I was expecting the story to be a bit darker, it was a bit of a let down.

I enjoyed the 1980’s setting, and the supernatural element to the story very much! If you are looking for a quick, entertaining read, this will be the book for you!

My Rating: 3.5. stars

  1. Sounds like your experience of this one was pretty similar to my own!
I don’t know why I was expecting it to be far more frightening than it was… and I can completely understand the sarcasm πŸ™‚

    • There’s just something about the description of it that makes me think it’s going to be scarier than it actually turned out to be. Oh well, it turned out pretty enjoyable none the less. πŸ˜€
