This Week in Books | 05.17.17

I am joining in with the lovely Lipsy @ Lipsy’s Lost and Found’s feature which highlights our week in books. A similar theme is run by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words

NOW

Right now I am reading Since We Fell by Dennis Lehane, as well as The Van Gogh Deception by Deron R. Hicks.

THEN

I recently finished Into the Water by Paula Hawkins [review here], and really enjoyed it. I had mixed things about it, so was leery going into the book.

NEXT

I hope to read Flame in the Mist by Renée Ahdieh soon. I loved The Wrath & The Dawn duology, and can’t wait to read this book set in feudal Japan!

What am I waiting on?

[Linking up with Breaking the Spine]

I need book six in the ToG series stat! Especially as it follows Chaol, my favorite troubled character!

What are you currently reading?

  1. You’re one of the few that I’ve seen enjoyed Into the Water. I’m glad to see that! I still don’t know if I’ll try it – I wasn’t even a huge fan of her debut.
I hope you are enjoying Since We Fell!! I just got my BOTM copy last week and can’t wait to read it.

    • I’ve read from a lot of people who weren’t a fan of her debut, like this one. I think this one is so mixed that I almost couldn’t go by the reviews.

    • I can understand that! I was really hoping it it would end with Empire of Storms, but now I have to know what happens next. 😀

    • I think it’s Paula Hawkins is the type of author you either love or hate. There doesn’t seem to be much in between. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

  2. I’m actually not as thrilled as I’d hoped I’d be for the next book in ToG, but that’s also because I’m not the biggest fan of Chaol. I really enjoyed his character in the first 2 books but then his moral compass has turned him into such a whiney perfectionist lol. He’s soooo rigid about how things should be done and there’s no accepting any grey area. Maybe this next book will help redeem him though? Hopefully!

  3. I just popped over to read your review and have to admit I don’t think Into the Water is for me. Multiple narrators and unlikeable characters is just a no for me but I’m glad you enjoyed.

    • I don’t think it’s for everyone. I don’t always gel with multiple narrators or unlikeable characters, but it seemed to work for me in Hawkins’ book. Thanks for stopping by!

  5. I have just read an awesome review of Since We Fell. I hope that you are enjoying it. I am still on the fence about Into the Water. I really liked the author’s first book but I am not sure about this second one due to all the mixed review. Glad to see that you enjoyed it though. Happy reading.

  6. I’m really looking forward to reading both of those BOTM books next month. Right now I’m working on cleaning up my ARC backlog. Can’t wait to see what you think of Flame in the Mist! I really want to read that one!
